Print the cards
All 6 cards on one A4 sheet with names underneath, ready to cut out. To swap a card or change a label, open the sheet in the editor first.
- Pick the cards that match your meal — for example three core steps (Wash hands, Sit and eat, Mealtime is all done) or all six cards.
- Edit the labels before printing (for example 'Dinner', 'Packed lunch' or 'Plate on the counter'), or download the A4 PDF directly.
- Place the sequence where your child can see it at the table, and use the Mealtime is all done card to mark when the meal finishes.

Make the structure around the table predictable from start to finish
At breakfast or dinner, uncertainty often comes from transitions around the meal rather than the food itself: When are we sitting down, what happens at the table, and how do I know when I can leave? A visible mealtime sequence shows the start, middle and end of the meal clearly.
Seeing that 'Wash hands' leads to 'Sit at the table and eat' and closes with 'Mealtime is all done' builds a calm bridge from playtime to the table.
Shorten the strip to match your child and your table
You do not need to use all six cards at once. For younger children or busy afternoons, three cards — Wash hands, Sit and eat, and Mealtime is all done — are often the clearest starting point.
If you also want individual food pictures (such as fruit, bread or drinks) to show what is on the menu, browse our free food pictogram category alongside this routine sheet.
Use the cards as a practical sequence, not table pressure
Keep the visual strip as a neutral, predictable guide to the steps around the meal rather than a chart for pressuring bites. Pairing the 'Mealtime is all done' card with what happens next after the table keeps the end of the meal clear for everyone.

Questions about the material
Can we use this sheet for breakfast, packed lunch and dinner?
Yes. Click Edit the cards before printing to customize the labels free without an account — for example 'Packed lunch', 'Family dinner' or 'Put plate in sink'.
Where can we find individual food pictograms?
This sheet covers the step-by-step routine around sitting down to eat. For individual food and drink symbols, visit the Food category in our free pictogram library.
Do we need to use all six mealtime cards at once?
No. Starting with two or three cards (such as Wash hands, Sit and eat, and Mealtime is all done) or placing two cards on a First–Then board is often easiest.
Is this schedule a feeding-therapy tool?
No. It is a practical everyday visual routine for the steps around mealtime. For clinical feeding concerns, always consult a qualified health visitor, doctor or occupational therapist.
